Concentration & Spell Durability ✨🧠
🔮 What Is Concentration?
Concentration is how spellcasters maintain ongoing magical effects over time.
Many buffs, control, and utility spells require it.
You can only concentrate on one spell at a time.
Losing concentration means the spell ends immediately.
Examples of concentration spells:
Bless (support allies)
Invisibility (sneak unseen)
Hold Person (paralyze enemies)
Fly (grant flight)
If you want to juggle multiple effects — tough luck! Only one concentration spell can be active per caster at any given time.
⏳ How Long Does It Last?
Each spell lists its duration (e.g., “Concentration, up to 1 minute”).
You can end concentration anytime — no action needed.
1 minute = 10 rounds of combat.
Some last longer — up to 10 minutes, 1 hour, or even 8 hours!
⚠️ Losing Concentration
Concentration can break in several ways:
Casting another concentration spell — ends the first one.
Taking damage — you must make a Constitution saving throw to keep focus.
- DC = 10 or half the damage taken (whichever is higher).
Being incapacitated or killed.
Environmental effects — extreme weather, shaking, or distractions (DM’s call).
Example:
A Wizard is concentrating on Fly.
They take 22 damage from an arrow.
They must roll a Constitution save DC 11 to keep the spell.
If they fail — splat! The flying ends immediately. 💥
🛡️ How to Protect Concentration
Stay behind cover — avoid unnecessary hits.
Boost Constitution (saves matter!).
Take the War Caster feat for advantage on concentration saves.
Use spells like Mirror Image or Blur to reduce incoming damage.
Allies can protect you using positioning or body-blocking. 🧙♂️🛡️
💡 Quick Tips for Spell Durability
Choose non-concentration spells to stack effects (e.g., Magic Missile + Shield).
Concentrate smartly — pick what benefits the party most.
If you’re hit often, consider Defensive fighting styles or spells.
