Understanding Advantage and Disadvantage

Advantage: Roll twice and pick the highest number of the two rolls Disadvantage: Roll twice but pick the lowest of the two rolls.

Advantage

Advantage is valuable — worth more than the most powerful weapons over the course of one turn.

Advantage isn't worth forgoing an attack just to use an attack with advantage. Generally two attacks are worth more than one attack with advantage.

Odds

If something is successful 2/3s of the time, it is worth the risk.

Disadvantage

Two rolls is good if your odds are better than 50%

One roll is good if your odds are less than 50%

More Advantage

You can't stack advantage but you can negate disadvantage effect by gaining advantage in that state.

One advantage cancels out multiple disadvantages.

Stacked disadvantage can be good insurance on an enemy in case they negate one disadvantage there will be another as a back up plan. (Note: multiple disadvantages don't stack.)
